When American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., is requested to make any statement regarding current events that are of a political nature, the request will always be denied.  ​

Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Contributions to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of AGSM in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the prohibition against political campaign activity.  Violating this prohibition may result in denial or revocation of tax-exempt status and the imposition of certain excise taxes.  

American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. is almost 100 years old.  AGSM, Inc. will NOT jeopardize our standing as an organization by engaging in political comment.  We are a Congressionally chartered VETERANS SERVICE ORGANIZATION, not a political organization. 

The comments or opinions voiced by individual members are their right to free speech.  They are not the position of American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., and should not be interpreted as such.  Remember, not every Gold Star Mother in America has chosen to be a member of American Gold Star Mothers, Inc.  The women who have chosen to be a member of American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., have done so because they want to be part of a veterans service organization that allows them to continue to serve our military and veteran community in honor of their Hero.
